Born in 1967, Steve Aylett lives outside of London. His first two books--THE CRIME STUDIO (1994) and BIGOT HALL (1995)--were published in the United Kingdom by Serif. His most recent novel, Slaughtermatic, was published in the United States by Four Walls Eight Windows (to place an order, please go here). A collection of stories, Toxicology, will be brought out by Four Walls Eight Windows in 1999. The jacket flap of the U.K. version of Slaughtermatic (Orion) suggests of Aylett: "The only way he could be more English is if he were dead." He also has a story in Four Walls Eight Window's Fetish anthology.

Dante pushed into the bank, thinking about A.A. Milne. Why didn't he ever write Now We Are Dead? No foresight, Dante decided. Always think ahead. Under Dante's full-length coat was an old 10-guage Winchester, an Uzi machine pistol and a Zero Approach handgun. Against his heart was a thesaurus bound in PVC. He smiled at the entrance guard.

The door opened and Chief Henry Blince bulged out like a gum bubble which refused to burst. Blince had lost all sense of proportion -- each of his chins was registered to vote. His bulk was the only thing standing between justice and chaos, and he had so far kept these conditions innocent of one another. Biting into a doughnut the size of a flotation ring, he surveyed the first floor bank.
