Seven Mountains

About Seven Mountains[ HOME ]

Seven Mountains Writers Conference is different from other conferences. How?

First of all, students benefit from 8+ hours per day of actual workshop time. Compare this to other events wherein participants receive at most only two to four hours actual workshop time (over three to four days) while the balance of the conference involves panels and speeches that allow little or no opportunity for interaction with guest agents and authors. At Seven Mountains, however, interaction with literary pros takes place in the context of small-group workshops. Interaction is not only easy, but required.

Secondly, Seven Mountains Writers Conference is sponsored by Algonkian Writer Conferences. The Algonkian philosophy is to approach the teaching of literary art in a comprehensive and pragmatic fashion. Algonkian believes that students should learn and apply vital craft technique culled from the most brilliant authors, writers, and poets, and do so not only in the context of their own work, but in the larger context of the literary market. Students must write to be published--yet without sacrificing their fundamental values for the work. We teach "from the heart, but smart," and we refer to this approach as the model-and-context method. Please read our FAQ page for more information.

At the risk of sounding overblown, we feel that we've created the single best way to teach our students the art of poetry and fiction. We supply the ideal setting, world class material and faculty, and several doses of pragmatic market knowledge mixed with fine wine and autumn leaves.

Contact us at algonkian@webdelsol.com if you have questions. Algonkian Writer Conferences also focus on genre research, agent needs, editorial services, short fiction publication, and more. We teach the hard yet reassuring facts about the market. Students of our workshops, gain an immediate advantage of association due to the fact that our workshops are affiliated with WebdelSol.Com, the largest publisher of periodical contemporary literature (short fiction and poetry) in the U.S. Our best student work, especially poetry and short fiction, often appears in WebdelSol related publications.
