brief-residency MFA in Writing

Ideally suited to the writing life

Our four-semester, brief-residency MFA in Writing offers

An intellectually stimulating and emotionally supportive educational experience

Unparalleled flexibility and individually tailored graduate study

A diverse and close-knit community of faculty and students

Each semester begins with a 10-day residency in Louisville or abroad,* after which students return home to study one on one with a faculty mentor by correspondence.

Students may customize the location, season, and pace of their studies. The same amount of writing is required in each option.

*The summer residency abroad takes place in such locations as Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Dublin, and Paris.
