Looked at in this light, the arguments as to the effect of direct buying on the price of hogs are seen to miss the point. They assume that Chicago sets the price of hogs. That is not true. More hogs are bought in Iowa than in Chicago. It would be more accurate to say that Iowa sets the price of hogs than to say that Chicago sets it. Actually, neither one alone sets it.
