GOOGLE PORTRAIT, SELF, WITH SURNAME OF 8TH GRADE BOYFRIEND

Carol McCarthy

PhD, R.N., CPA, mother of two daughters, Diana and Selena,
                                                            with the former the thriving
                                                            singer I wanted to become.

Instead, Sci-Fi movie star, Pulitzer Prize finalist for excellence
in reporting on national affairs.
Far from me at the party that night,
misquoted as one who
"Loves photography as a hobby," yet
only wanted to find a place for digital photo meet-ups, meeting
other Latinos in the area.

                                        It's my testimonial on ecopress.com
that you can find me at McLeanbible.org where I am a minister for the aging,

a medical missionary instrumental
in organizing the multi-cultural festivals
in the departmental directory—
blogspot, listserv, PDF downloads
where, in the end, I am not pictured.

The birth of this poem came from a conversation I had with my father a while back after he told me he had Googled my name to see what I had been up to. And I thought, gee Dad, we talk every week. You should already know. This poem addresses the concept of self and identity as seen through the eyes of the "Google Portrait."
