Occurrence, 1967
I abandoned my heritage,
my youth,
and everyone I knew,
when I helped my best friend
drink his way back from Vietnam,
until he could say out loud,
"The worst was the first time
I killed a woman."
William Brill lives in Oceanside, Ca. Though better known as an artist, he has had a few poems published in now defunct magazines and his play, "Hero From a Distance" was produced locally.
