Sherlock Holmes, of course, is the foundation upon which the many and many-levelled houses of the detective story are built. Michael Seringhaus’s story, originally intended only to amuse and entertain his friends, is at once homage, satire and silliness incarnate.


Michael Seringhaus is a graduate student and researcher in computational biology and bioinformatics at Yale, as well as a Writing Fellow. He serves on the editorial board of the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine and on that of another, lighter-hearted magazine for his 800-person department. “Ashen Tycoon” is his fourth story about consulting detective Winston Price and his Boswell, Franklin Slims.
