COMET

Shouldn't have tried looking for it in the city,
The lights were too bright -- we missed it.
While the body burned, was stripped, and soaring,
The comet slowly dissolved its heart.

The lights were too bright, we missed it.
The apartment was too small for us, even with the high ceilings.
The comet slowly dissolved its heart.
We watched for it here, the windows fell away.

The apartment was too small for us, even with the high ceilings.
We could have driven to the country to see it better.
We watched for it here, the windows fell away,
But the city's halogen haze had floated in to stay.

We could have driven to the country to see it better,
We had a few hours yet before it passed.
But the city's halogen haze had floated in to stay,
And this argument was already bigger than both of us.

We had a few hours yet before it passed.
We sat there on the couch in a lavender shell
And this argument was already bigger than both of us.
Gas would compress to stone, a new star.

We sat there on the couch in a lavender shell,
While the body burned, was stripped, and soaring.
Gas would compress to stone, a new star.
Shouldn't have tried looking for it in the city.
